Ehsan Manzil: Conception of time

What I found very intriguing while reading Ehsan Manzil was how every generation transformed from the previous and the consequences that went along with every transformation. Starting with the very first character in the story, Shiekh Ehsanul Haq whose never laid eyes on his own daughters out of respect and decency quickly changes with every following generation. Women stop covering themselves, they speak loudly in front of na-mehram men. There's a constant push in pull in every generation where the parents try to pull their children closer to their values but the children push away to gain freedom. With the passage of time, every generation becomes more free and less 'shareef' (in the story) than the previous' and they further impose restrictions on their children. Intizar Hussain does not tell us how this transformation happens because it lies outside the logical framework of the story. I'm questioning the reasons for every generation becomes freer but when it comes their turn to tutor their own children they continue to place limitations. There could be a lot of reasons and ramifications for why this happens.
