history and hypocrisy!

Ehsan Manzil does not only refer to a multistory building but to multiple stories of multiple generations and the evolution of morals and values within the four boundaries of the building. The history of Ehsan manzil remained more or less the same with every character but the circumstances progressed to some extent. Since the beginning of the story, there is a continuous progressive tradition from generation to generation. For example, when Sheikh irfan ul haq wanted to study in Aligarh he faced stark opposition from his father but the son from the very next generation of the same family is sent to Aligarh.
There are several instances when history repeats itself but what's interesting to note here is the hypocrisy of the characters at play. When a rebel is raised in an orthodox set up, you expect him to note the discrepancies he suffered and not to repeat them himself. However, here when characters are faced with the same situation but are at the opposite ends, their reaction is very similar to their older generation despite of a progressive trend throughout. When Mehmooda bu was caught reading prem chand's novel, her parents got her married and that's exactly what she proposed for her daughter, 'jawan laundia ko ghar main bithana theek nai hai. Acha bura jaisa launda mile isse thikane laga do'. This leads to a frustrating end but with a hope that the next daughter may not be married solely because she was reading a contemporary novel.
