The end of ‘Godavari’ seems quite realistic yet quite
mystical to the reader. With water gushing towards Maa and Baa, Maa finally
channels that energy from the waves to confront Baa about his promiscuous sexual
and flirtatious desires. Other than this, the water symbolizes peace that she
wants to achieve in life. This is the reason why she is not scared of going too
far into the sea. In addition, at this point, water that symbolizes peace, also
reminds her of the inner peace Usha has achieved irrespective of her activities
in life.
The big question at the end is that whether Maa actually achieves that inner peace or not. Maybe she does achieve a fraction of relief; however, the constant worry of her husband having a roaming eye has en-rooted deep insecurities in her mind. She might be able to leave those insecurities at home for a day, but when she returns to her house, those insecurities would be waiting to haunt her again.
