This post is regarding the rape discussion in the story
Sahib e Qaramat. Although the issue of rape is not much important compared to
the major themes raised by minto but the confusion in our mind that can we call
the sexual exploitation of those poor women an act of rape is rooted in our
view about the rape as a physically forced sexual exploitation (Zina bil
Jabar?) which is misleading because I think the term rape should not be limited
to only physically forced exploitation because in any way the locus of control
on victim’s self is manipulated. Moreover we should not in any way think of
cognitive manipulation as less dangerous than physical one rather it’s more
humiliating for the victim.
