What I found exceptional in the Sahib e Karamat story was the fact that it was unlike other short stories Manto has written. First of all it is way too simple given what Manto has written previously. Apart from this the story is pastoral as compared to his other works which are entrenched in the city. We see that prostitutes are missing from his story but again the idea of secular is again present in the sense that he has chosen a topic which was and which still is to a great extent considered taboo in our society. One of the reasons for this could be that he might have written this piece especially in context of the angaare movement.
What is interesting to note is that this story particularly and other short stories too being published at that time bring to light the figure of the subaltern.
