The historical implications

Some passages towards the ending chapters are loaded with deeper historical contexts. The reference to Delhi and 'gira hua sheher' are indiacting towards ghalib's letters. He witnessed  the fall of Mughal Empire and the bloodbath of 1857 hence wrote about the tumultuous events which changed the discourse of Delhi. Intizaar Hussain's analogy between Delhi and dil, "dil humara goya delhi sheher hai" is a metaphor comparing the external age of decline and the internal rift. The course of this passage changes immediately in the next line when the author adapts a more commanding tone comparable to religious texts. "Aur jab humne tum se ehad liya tha ke apas main khoonraizee mat kerna aur apnon ko apne mulk se mat nikalna phir tumne is ka ikraar kiya tha aur tum iske gawwa ho".He is trying to give his words a religious connotation as if what has happenned around him has not only displeased him but God as well. Then there is a passage with Tantia tope which constantly reiterates the blood feud between Mughal briothers and Bahadur Shah Zafar's exile to Burma. All these historical references are a subtle reminder of Muslim history in subcontinent, their actions whose consequences played a major role in defining the present situation of Muslims.
