According to me, the short story had used the metaphor of asylum for the subcontinent.It describes the whole situation which the people of that time were facing ,the confusion, the restlessness and the troubles.The "Pagal" is the most sarcastic kind of the word used for the native people of that time, which desceibes that they couldnot find any valid reason of this great uprooting of them from their homeland.The homeland being thr place of their forefathers, the place where they had spent their childhoohe place where they found themselves protected,the place which they owned.I think Minto had put in the most of his emotions,feelings and depth of his sorrow into this story.
