Captivity of one's own Negativity

it would seem very strange to most people and also hard to digest but i found the character of Hakim Sahib very helpless, pitiful and debilitated by his own decisions, living in a self-made world that was still a century old than that point of time in which he was not flexible to accept the changes. For me the cause of the helplessness and pity was that in the whole movie Hakim Sahib was trapped in the captivity of his own negativity. All of his decisions and his acts in the movie are evident of this certain negativity in which he is trapped. many would argue that the character of Hakim is an extreme authoritative one with ultimate supremacy over his family  It is true that Hakim's Character portrays him as a powerful man but Hakim is not a "strong man". He has raw power to beat his daughters or even kill Saifi but he is not powerful enough to come out of that cage of negativity that prevails around him. Even when Zainab repeatedly argues with him about several matters, he knows somewhere deep that she has a logical point and he has no answer but again that self-dominated traditional world of his own blocks his mind and he starts speaking the crammed lesson of religion with an interpretation that suits his world of ideas. Also the movie shows Hakim Sahib breaking down, feeling helpless and even crushing to tears. for example at the birth of daughter from Meena, Hakim Sahib is clearly crushed and feels devastated as he breaks into tears. But still he is only mourning over the birth of a daughter, not that suddenly someone has triggered the process of self realization and he is now feeling guilty over his deeds because previously he goes to marriage bureau and speaks of old times which is his actual world and does not hesitate to demand highly. then he murders Saifi but is never guilty and then he goes to a brothel, marries a prostitute but says "Kanjaro k Ghar jatay hain per Kanjar ho nahin Gaye hain". through all these instances i am trying to make a point that not even once in the whole movie Hakim Sahib is showed self analyzing his all wrong deeds or being guilty over them as he does not consider them wrong in the first place which makes him pitiful. slaughtering one's own child knowing that he did wrong but still not guilty over it makes a man cruel which is the common perception that arises about Hakim Sahib from the movie, but murdering your child and still not feeling guilty as you don't even consider it wrong only makes him helpless against the captivity of his own negativity.
